Cappadocia and the Turquoise Coast of Turkey

25 April - 12 May 2022

Metronome Tours is venturing back to Turkey in 2022 with a wonderful adventure to two of the most beautiful regions in Turkey; Cappadocia and the Turquoise Coast.

We will begin our tour in legendary Istanbul where we will spend a few days enjoying the best Istanbul has to offer.  From the beauty of the Blue Mosque and neighbouring Topkapi Palace, to a cruise along the bosphorus we will explore and learn about this magnificent city with our guide.

We say goodbye to Istanbul and fly to Central Anatolia to the city of Kayseri.  Here we will meet our driver and continue by road to the Cappadocia region.  This region is definitely one of the most striking areas in the world and sits on a plateau to the north of the Taurus Mountains.  The name “Cappadocia” is derived from the ancient Persian word Katpatuka, meaning “the land of beautiful horses”. Its countless valleys, underground cities, places of worship and caravanserais make Cappadocia one of Turkey’s most important cultural tourism destinations.  We will enjoy 3 nights in the legendary land exploring everything from the Fairy Chimneys to the wonderful pottery shops of this unique region.

After our exploration of Cappadocia we travel south to the city of Konya.  Konya is famous as being the burial place of Rumi, the esteemed Islamic poet and philosopher and founder of the Mevlevi Order, otherwise known as the Order of the Whirling Dervishes.  Along with our guide we will explore the Mevlana Museum where we will learn all about the Mevlana and the poet Rumi.

Once we leave Konya and cross the Taurus Mountains we will continue our adventure in Turkey exploring the Mediterranean and Aegean region.  We will visit the beautiful harbour area of Antalya, the iconic ruins of such magnificent sites as Perge and Aspendos.  Some structures at Perge date back as far as 1000 BC.  The ruins of Perge and Aspendos are two of the most ancient sites nestled along the coast near Antalya. Constructed with intricate decorations and built for extraordinary acoustics, the theatre of Aspendos once hosted grand attractions that held over 7,000 people.

The final region we visit on this adventure before heading back to Istanbul is the beautiful Turquoise Coast.  On the Turquoise Coast we will stay in the pearl of the region: the town of Kas.   Kas is a very unique coastal town as it has never been inundated with mass market tourism.  You can wander the charming cobble stone street of this beautiful town visiting its charming cafes and boutiques.  From Kas we will visit the beautiful Kekova by private boat and the ruins of ancient Myra.

We venture back to Istanbul for one last night before we say goodbye to Turkey and all the memories this fascinating destination has given us.  For complete itinerary, inclusions and pricing please click on the below link.
